SAE University College is excited to announce two full tuition scholarships to study Audio Production for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members of APRA AMCOS in 2025.

The two scholarships will be offered as part of an initiative jointly funded by SAE and APRA AMCOS’ National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO). It aims to support Indigenous music creators in their professional development and follows a similar scholarship in 2024.

Gamilaraay composer, vocalist and electronic artist, Amelia Thompson (THOM), received the 2024 NATSIMO & SAE University College Production Scholarship. Amelia is studying a Diploma of Audio at SAE Sydney with her scholarship, and said her studies have enabled her to explore her passion for music and audio production.

“The scholarship presented to me by NATSIMO encouraged me to take a deeper look at what was out there for Aboriginal women in the music industry, and SAE University College has great facilities and courses that deep dive into the world of audio,” she said.

“It is important to have opportunities like this at SAE for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and I would encourage those interested in music or audio to apply.”

The scholarships, worth over $60,000, offer two places in SAE’s highly regarded Diploma of Audio Production for 2025 to APRA AMCOS members.

One recipient will study at any SAE campus in Australia with $5,000 in study support, while the other will attend the Byron Bay SAE campus with fully funded accommodation for two trimesters.

General Manager of SAE University College Dr Luke McMillan said this marked the second year of this scholarship program, demonstrating APRA AMCOS’s and SAE’s ongoing commitment to supporting Indigenous talent.

“We’re thrilled to continue our valued partnership with NATSIMO this year, building on the success of our collaboration to support Indigenous students in creative industries,” he said.

Nathaniel Andrew, Senior Manager at NATSIMO said the scholarships presented a significant opportunity for APRA AMCOS’s Indigenous members.

“These scholarships provide an incredible opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music creators to access an exceptional level of creative and professional training to hone their technical skills, expand their industry knowledge and unlock new opportunities for their own career growth,” he said.

Nathaniel Andrew, Senior Manager at NATSIMO
"At NATSIMO, our mission is to not only empower artists, producers and creatives, but to also help develop true leaders within the Australian music community. Amazing opportunities like this with SAE University College really help us to achieve that mission."

SAE’s Diploma of Audio Production course offers students the unique opportunity to learn from expert practitioners in a collaborative environment, applying their skills in real-life scenarios with the latest tools and software.

The course covers recording and mixing techniques, live sound concepts, core principles of sound production and scholarly techniques for higher education, while also providing an understanding of the audio and music industries.

Applications are open now until 12:00am (AEDT) Sunday 3 November 2024.  Apply at the APRA AMCOS website here.
