Three SAE Indonesia Animation students are basking in the afterglow of their win at the ASIAGRAPH National Awards held in Jakarta last month.

The team swept the floor with their short video animation, Be The Way You Are, during a 48-hour challenge to claim the conference’s trophy award, the ASIAGRAPH Reallusion Award.

The ASIAGRAPH Awards is an annual 2D & 3D animation competition in Asia where students are invited to compete against teams from other colleges and universities over a 48-hour period. The aim is to create a previsualization animation using Reallusion’s iClone software.

SAE Indonesia competed against prominent universities including Tarumanegara, Multimedia Nusantara (UMN), STMIK Amikom Jogja, Budi Luhur and SSR Jakarta.

The team, aptly named Lucky Three Productions, created a five-minute animated short film centered on a young clown entertaining a group of children in a park.

As winners of the national competition, the team of first and second-year SAE students, Jibril Illiyyin, Yogi Al-Ghifary and Marcelline Fitri, went on to compete at the International ASIAGRAPH Awards in Taipei. Working under the guidance of SAE Indonesia’s Head of Animation, Rangga Yudo Yuwono, the team competed in a second 48-hour challenge against countries from across Asia at Shih Chien University.

While the SAE team didn’t take out the international title, the Institute did catch the attention of Base-fx Studio, which has since offered job opportunities to SAE animation graduates.
