Visualise Your Voice workshop in Melbourne

Feb 23 2019 | 11:00AM - 5:00PM

A practical workshop for young women to visualise their stories on screen.

As part of the 2019 Melbourne Women's Film Festival, Visualise Your Voice (VYV) is a practical workshop aimed at culturally diverse young women aged 15-17 who aspire to enter the screen and creative industries.

The workshop will be piloted as a part of a newly developed education stream of our festival's overall program. The day long workshop focuses two key areas of career development:

  • Knowledge of the different pathways for working as a screen practitioner, including information on education opportunities, industry structures, and entry level initiatives.

  • The creation of a practical, self-devised short production in which participants are encouraged to tell their own stories while learning how to translate their stories on screen.

Registered participants will learn under the guidance of professional screen industry practitioners and educators, having the opportunity to experience different creative roles and use industry-standard equipment.

For the 2019 pilot workshop, MWFF will engage with 2-3 local government secondary schools, the Centre for Multicultural Youth and Footscray Community Arts Centre during the planning and organisational stages of the workshop to ascertain the interests and challenges of marginalised young women seeking creative experience. It is our aim to create a positive space where young women build confidence and skills to tell their own stories on screen.
