What our students say about SAE
“As SAE students, we were guided through every stage of the filmmaking process, from pre-production to post-production. Using the skills we developed throughout the course, we created a solid shooting plan for our final short film that covered everything from budgeting to the shot list, ensuring a smooth and efficient production.”
Jovian Ubukata
Bachelor of Film, graduated 2024
“I chose to study at SAE because it offered the ideal balance between hands-on experience and academic learning. The practical aspect was particularly valuable, as it allowed me to familiarise myself with industry-standard equipment and workflows, and on the academic side, the program encouraged deeper analysis and critical thinking. This individual guidance was instrumental in helping me grow as a filmmaker, allowing me to improve quickly and effectively. SAE was the place where I learned how to get my work out into the world and how to properly showcase it to a wider audience and earn the awards I have today.”
Mia Charleson
Bachelor of Film (Production), graduated 2024
“If you’re thinking about enrolling at SAE just do it! You never know who you will meet, where you will go or what you will do next. The knowledge and skills I learnt at SAE are invaluable and I encourage any creative to attend an open day and see what it’s like. It may be the start of an amazing story for yourself!”
Sophie Ryder
Bachelor of Audio, graduated 2022
“I’ve always had a passion for music production, and being in a wheelchair and living with cerebral palsy hasn’t stopped me. SAE has provided me with the opportunities to learn and grow, through supportive staff and new friends who believe in my abilities. Having visited a couple of higher education providers, I felt SAE [Melbourne] could offer me more support with my education and accessibility. I’ve really enjoyed the practical elements my course – as creatives we don’t like doing the academic parts so much!”
Samson Hailu
Bachelor of Music student
“I wasn’t interested in working in film or on TV sets like some of my contemporaries, and that’s when I thought about marketing myself as a ‘triple threat’ – a cinematographer, director and producer – Pixflix Productions was born from there.”
Adam Pickstone
SAE Alumni | Current Job: Creative Director / Founder, Pixflix Productions
“I think one of the main benefits of SAE is the diversity of the syllabus, being able to see what’s involved in production, and having an insight into different film departments was a great way to see which way I wanted to go with my career.”
Josh King
SAE Alumni | Current Job: Creative Director, Artem Collective
“The best memories I have of my time at SAE are my interactions with other students and lecturers. With so many like-minded people surrounding you at all times, you can’t help but be inspired and guided to new and exciting ideas on a daily basis.”
Jair Wallace
SAE Alumni | Current Job: Games Designer and Developer
“When I was doing my major project, I was encouraged to collaborate with students who were studying audio or design, and that’s exactly what you do in the real world. You have to learn how to get along with people who have different skill sets to yourself and navigate through any issues.”
Nik Pantis
