SAE students get creative with Bluesfest

30 Mar 2021

This year’s Bluesfest is delivering an all-Aussie lineup for the first time in the festival’s history. SAE design students, Fernanda Campos Gerdes and Harrison Sharman have had the chance to get involved in the milestone event, by creating the artwork and digital visuals to be seen on Bluesfest’s socials during the festival.

Fernanda and Harrison are studying a Bachelor of Design at SAE’s Byron Bay campus. Both got the opportunity to mix it with some of the pros at Bluesfest through the industry placement that forms as part of their degree.

“It’s been great because I’ve been able to create templates and gifs for their socials, as well as the signs for the venues. It's been so good being a part of such a huge festival, and seeing how it will all come together for the weekend,” Fernanda said.

Harrison, like Fernanda, has had the chance to design a number of assets for Bluesfest - including food and apparel signs, volunteer appreciation certificates, and digital templates for their social platforms. “This has been my first real world design experience, and I can’t believe it’s almost over. It’s great putting the skills I’ve learnt at SAE to practice, and it looks fantastic on my resume,” Harrison commented.

Bluesfest and SAE have been partners for over 15 years, and it’s SAE’s students that continue to deliver the same passion every year at Australia’s number one blues n’ roots festival. “SAE’s students bring energy, vitality, and eagerness to Bluesfest. Whether they are involved in stage production, filmography, graphic design, or any aspect of the media their willingness to learn in a full-on work environment has always been of great assistance across all departments – we love sharing and collaborating with their fresh talent,” a Bluesfest spokesperson said.
