Melbourne student documentary woos selectors at St Kilda Film Festival
5 Jun 2018
SAE Bachelor of Film students Liam Fouracre and Khalid Naim have had their documentary Adoption Pending screened at the St Kilda Film Festival.
Originally submitting Adoption Pending in the Under The Radar category for young filmmakers (both Liam and Khalid are 20 years old), it was accepted into the top 100 films of the program and will be included on the St Kilda Film Festival Victorian tour.
For Liam and Khalid the opportunity to create Adoption Pending was a chance to shed light on an alternative narrative.
“Within documentary, we focus so much attention on exploring people, forgetting about the lives of millions of other beings that live and breathe story. With Adoption Pending, the goal was to experience a journey from a dog's point of view,” said Liam.
SAE Melbourne Campus Manager Keiran Bartlett is proud of the sophisticated work the students are producing.
“I first saw Khalid and Liam's film at their class exhibition and it was easy to forget that this was a student project. Their work was engaging and thorough, but more importantly it demonstrated their ability to highlight areas of concern in a format that is easily digestable. I look forward to seeing more.”
Along with seeing their documentary included on the festival line-up, Liam and Khalid were also invited to be a part of the festival’s panel discussion titled Focus On Editing. As two presenters on the panel of four, the students discussed techniques used to edit Adoption Pending and the editing process for short filmmaking. The experience proved to be just as insightful and beneficial to Khalid and Liam as it was to their audience of creatives.
For the chance to catch Adoption Pending, The St Kilda Film Festival Tour will be running from June - September throughout locations in Victoria.
