Shooting for a photography career

14 Apr 2016

Fancy a photography career in the entertainment industry?

SAE Creative Media Institute has launched a new photography diploma that gives students the chance to study alongside emerging filmmakers, musicians, producers and designers from day one.

Open to all aspiring photographers, including school leavers, career-changers and mature age students, the Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging will be delivered at the state-of-the-art SAE Melbourne campus, which just underwent a $5 million facelift.

SAE senior lecturer, Rikki Bunder said the Diploma was designed for anyone aspiring to work as a professional photographer in the advertising, domestic, commercial and media industries.

After just one year of study, graduates will have the skills required to launch their own portrait photography businesses, or to work as photographic assistants for professional advertising and commercial photographers.

“Because of SAE’s focus on creative media disciplines, it will especially suit anyone wanting to work as a photographer in the music and film industries,” Mr Bunder said.

“I don’t know of any other place where photography students get to work so closely with these departments, shooting live music events and film productions as part of their studies.

“We’re all about hands-on learning at SAE, so there will also be plenty of field trips, gallery visits and engagement with industry leaders.”

Students will get access to industry-standard lighting gear and world-class facilities including a professional cyclorama studio and sound stage.

Applicants must present a simple portfolio demonstrating that they can use a DSLR camera in different situations and challenges.

The Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging will commence in late May and enrolments are now open. Visit for more information regarding this course.
