The very accomplished Christina Langham is this week's feature #SAECREW member. SAE Brisbane Assistant Campus Manager, Session Musician and Co-founder of Vincent & Jules, to describe Chrissy as busy would be an understatement!
Contemporary session musician, Christina Langham is an events manager and accomplished multi-instrumentalist - drums, percussion, guitar, banjo, vocals, and more. She has a keen interest in musical performance and production, marketing, brand identity, social media, creative research, and artistic development.
Christina has performed at numerous festivals around Australia, including Splendour In The Grass and Falls Music & Arts Festival. Along with co-releasing an array of recordings, video clips and musical content, she has toured parts of Australia with an eclectic list of artists: Fat City Strut (roots, reggae, dub); The Button Collective (bluegrass, folk); Maja (soul funk); Mecha Mecha (alternative rock), and more. She has shared bills with the likes of Lagerstein, Remi, Rainbowdragoneyes (UK), Osaka Punch, and Laced In Lust (Adelaide).
In mid-2015, she co-founded a small promotions group called Vincent & Jules with her partner, Amanda Terry. Vincent & Jules focuses on content curation and event management for local Brisbane bands, and currently hosts the Cookies & Cream residency at The Zoo.
As a drum performance and music marketing major, she is heavily involved in the Brisbane Music Scene across many fronts: social media marketing, PR, events management, live performance, project management, content curation and more. Academically, her research field encompasses creative marketing, brand identity, independent music promotion, co- creationism, consumer relationship, entrepreneurship and the 'new' music industry (or Music 2.0).
THE FUN STUFF
What music are you loving right now?
Why do you love working at SAE?
Creative Industries is my true home. I feel so inspired each and every day by the people I work with, and watching our students grow into artists. I love the conversations I have with people I pass in the hallways, and sharing my favourite music or movies with my peers. SAE is a community as much as a workplace, and I'm stoked to be a part of it.
What is the best fun fact about yourself?
I'm very sentimental - I keep journals and memory walls of bits and bobs of things I collect to remind me of the goofy fun times I've had. Movie tickets, wrist bands at gigs, posters, photos, newspaper articles, magazine cutouts... It's like a visual roadmap of where I've come from and what inspires me.
How do you like to spend your time outside of SAE?
Playing guitar, watching gigs, writing poetry, hanging out with my cat, or reading journal articles on my research area.
What is your life motto?
"Keep your chin up"
What is your dream holiday destination?
Oliver Schratz - blendeneffekte.de
Are you working on any exciting projects at the moment?
I'm writing my first solo album at present, still very much in the pre-production stage. I'll be pushing myself performance wise, playing all instruments and layering the vocals. Extremely terrified and excited for this journey!
