Bio

26 year old Byron Bay artist Isabella Piper Aka ISY ISY released her debut single ‘All The Time’ to a whole lot of love in March this year.

In the lead up to the June release of her debut EP, ‘Levels’, ISY ISY directed and released her first video clip filmed and edited by Andy Bowels and premiered by Stoney Roads on the 27th April. In the words of the songstress herself, “‘All The Time’ is about having lived in the moment, being lost for direction, and then falling in love with yourself again. And late nights driving nowhere.” says Isabella. The visual style of the video compliments the song to a tee. Filled with dark, brooding, nostalgia-inducing shots, the rolling bass lines drive the song as she drives through the night.

Since then, she’s nabbed a support slot on alt-pop extraordinaire G Flip’s debut tour via Future Classic, been thrown on the Triple J airwaves via Home & Hosed, and maintained a sweet number 4 on the Unearthed Electronic Charts. Taking some serious pointers from the work of Wafia, Banks, and FKA Twigs, her unique vocal tone, unapologetic self-love, and expressive style has captured our hearts, and we know she’ll snatch yours up too.

What inspired you to enter into the career you’re in?
There are many artists that have inspired me to do music, however attending and studying at SAE was a big one.

What are your fondest memories of your time at SAE?
Well, for a couple of years I felt as if I had became a part of the furniture as barely left the building. I think term 4 of the Degree was my favourite, late nights in the SSLK with artists and students, once you start to understand the digital and analogue desks your studio sessions with artists become so much more fun.

Are you able to shed some light on how studying at SAE lead you to where you are now?
SAE gave me the tools to understand how to create the sounds I wanted, but I also found that the environment and the energy of the rad people I met and made friends with made it fun and exciting, so even when the tasks and assignments had me pulling my hair out I was still enjoying the process.

What are your career highlights?
Breaking down my music and creating my live electronic show is a huge achievement for me and have just played my first East Coast Tour in early May. But also having the knowledge, skills and confidence to develop my own record label and independently manage my music and live performances is more than enough of a highlight for me, it’s a life long dream and achievement that has come alive.

What projects are you working on at the moment?
After a few years of writing and producing electronic beats and Djing I have spent the passed 2 years focusing on my vocals and storytelling and will be releasing my debut Ep titled ‘LEVELS in July. I have been pretty busy the last few months directing video clips to go with the Ep. The clip for my debut single ‘All The Time was released on April 27th this year, it was filmed and edited by Byron Bay musician Andy Bowels. I am currently working on the clip for the second single ‘I Set Me Free, set to release early July before the full Ep.

What advice would you give to students aspiring to become successful in their field?
Good question.. well, I can’t speak for the rest of my career but I can definitely confirm that my recipe so far is made up on: 30% Creativity, 30% Financial Investment, 20% Cut Throat Determination of your goals. And a solid 20% to your standards of the people you chose to work and deal with.

The music industry is tough as you know, and sometimes it can take many years to reach your goals. From the moment you decided to be a musician, you become your own manager, I assure you that you will get way more done, and can be way more creative when you ditch the parties and the hangovers.

This journey is yours, and if you have goals and are determined to be a creative and for fill your dreams, then don’t let anyone stand in your way.
