Bio

SAE Brisbane graduate Alexandra Gillies studied a Diploma of Screen and Media majoring in Digital Video Production and graduated in 2010. Alexandra went on to further study, after which she landed a job as a Post Production Coordinator at Network Ten’s preschool program, ‘Crocamole’.

What inspired you to enter into the career you’re in?
I have always been fascinated with storytelling, but I enjoy the coordination/production side of video production as I thrive on being organised and bringing everything together whilst still being able to be a bit creative.

What are your fondest memories of your time at SAE?
It had a such a friendly vibe about it. It was like a small town where everyone knew each other, and all the teachers and lecturers were so approachable and actually helped you and your work when you needed it.

Are you able to shed some light on how studying at SAE lead you to where you are now?
You learn so much in such a short space of time studying a Diploma at SAE. Whilst studying I learned pretty quickly to ask questions when you needed help and solider on through any challenges you face…and effective time management! These are all skills I use every day at work.

What are your career highlights?
A few years ago I worked on a tourism campaign for Tourism NT. I traveled to Uluru and got to visit King’s Canyon, Uluru, Kata Tjuta, to name a few places. Not only was I visiting all those amazing places but the campaign was for the Chinese market, so it was all in Mandarin, which was quite challenging and interesting at times! I love my new job at Network Ten, being part of a team building a new show from the ground up is very rewarding.

What projects are you working on at the moment?
I am currently Post Production Coordinator at Network Ten in Brisbane for their preschool program ‘Crocamole’, which airs 9:30am weekdays in Channel 11.

What advice would you give to students aspiring to become successful in their field?
Any experience is good experience! Learn as much as you can, being multi skilled will make you invaluable. Be happy working hard, it will all pay off.
