SAE University College will expand its offerings in creative technology education with the launch of the new Master of Information Technology (MIT) in Trimester 3, 2025 at the Sydney campus.
This degree has been designed to upskill workers in the technology sector or those looking to expand their technology skills by incorporating the fundamentals of IT with evolving study areas like AI.
The MIT is launched at a time when Australia’s technology skills gap remains severe, with a recent Jobs and Skills Australia report recording a four-year shortage of viable applicants for developer programmer positions. Meanwhile, the Australian Government is ambitiously aiming to increase the tech workforce to 1.2 million jobs by 2030. To hit this goal, future-facing technology education which upskills workers, like SAE’s MIT, will be essential.
Building upon the success of SAE’s Bachelor of Computer Science, the MIT is completed in two years and follows a project-based structure designed to immediately address the skills gap. Students will apply their knowledge to hands-on projects from day one and explore their passions with two capstone project units, ensuring they graduate with job-ready skills that employers are actively seeking, setting them apart in a rapidly evolving job market.
The program will also include units on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), data science, coding and cyber security – the four most in-demand digital competencies according to a 2024 Deloitte survey of Australian employers. SAE’s formal position on GenAI, published in 2025, highlights the institution’s forward-thinking approach to emerging technologies and its commitment to equipping students with the critical, creative and ethical foundations which form the bedrock of the MIT as well as its other courses.
Course Director Dr Luke Bozzetto says SAE University College’s MIT program responds directly to industry demand for graduates with both advanced technical knowledge and creative problem-solving abilities.
“The MIT provides students with future-focused skills including AI and machine learning, software development, cyber security, and data analysis, while emphasising creative applications in digital media, UX/UI design, and game development,” Dr Bozzetto said.
Matthew Evans, Executive General Manager, SAE Global said: “Learning in the creative environment of SAE University College gives MIT students built-in opportunities for interdisciplinary projects within the creative industries.”
“As Australia’s only University College focused on bringing together creative and technological practice, we’re uniquely positioned to deliver a masters program that blends technical rigour with creative application. Having IT alongside disciplines like Audio, Music, Film or VFX and Virtual Production allows for that intersection to happen in real time between students, strengthening both creative and technology disciplines.”
Mr Evans added that SAE’s commitment to a future-ready workforce is reinforced by a generous scholarship program for all students commencing in 2025 and a competitive fee structure.
“We are committed to support a diverse and equitable student body and future workforce. Our graduates will be equipped for diverse career pathways including AI specialist, software architect, cyber security consultant, UX/UI developer, and technology project manager.”
