BETHAN MADDISON

I began my time at SAE in May 2016, and had my first Work Experience opportunity that December, at Chapel Lane (Studios) with my lecturer Simon Kither. After that, I then had another Work Experience offer with lecturer Michael Carver to record an album at SAE. The rest is history. I began booking projects, and soon became Intern at Chapel Lane. Now I work as a Freelance Audio Engineer – recording, mixing, writing and producing music.

What inspired you to enter into the career you’re in?
I had always loved music and wanted to do something based around it, and I thought I would give it a go behind the desk. I enjoyed the recording I did in school and thought about how fun it would be to do that as a job. I didn’t see many females doing so at the time, so I think that pushed me as well.

What are your fondest memories of your time at SAE?
Meeting my now team. They have helped me so much to get where I am today, and they are great people to work with and be around. I loved learning more about the field of audio and putting my knowledge into action through projects and assignments.

Are you able to shed some light on how studying at SAE lead you to where you are now?
I was really lucky to have been taught by the people I was, because they really took me under their wing and pushed me to become what I wanted to.

What are your career highlights?
Becoming Intern at Chapel Lane is my biggest highlight. But I have worked with some very talented artists, and created some great pieces of music with them.

What projects are you working on at the moment?
I’m currently in the process of mixing an album, as well as 3 other separate singles. I’m doing recording for various artists, while also creating my own EP at the same time.

What advice would you give to students aspiring to become successful in their field?
Always show interest in what you’re doing.
