Student Visa Information
SAE is here to support you on your study journey. We understand that applying for your visa can be a long process and have provided some key information below to help guide you.
Student Visa Information
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is responsible for issuing visas for entry to Australia. On July 1, 2016 the DHA introduced the new “Simplified Student Visa Framework” (SSVF). All international students must apply for a Student Visa Subclass 500, regardless of their chosen course of study.
Before you can apply for your visa, you need to receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) from the education provider. Your COE will be sent to you after your enrolment has been approved by SAE International Admissions, and upfront fees have been paid. After you receive your COE you must apply for your Student Visa online via the DHA website and pay the visa application charge and any other costs associated with your visa application.
Getting Help with your Visa Application
If you would like with your visa application, SAE have arrangements with a number of experienced agents who can assist you, at no cost to yourself. You can view our list of current agents available here: Find an Agent.
The DHA website also has information to help you prepare your application
Applying is simple:
1. Go to the DHA Student Visa document checklist page
2. Select the Education Provider: You can find “SAE Institute Pty Ltd” by searching alphabetically.
3. Choose your Country of Passport.
4. The system will generate a “Document Checklist”: Read this checklist carefully – you will need to provide everything on this checklist.
5. When you have reviewed the checklist and are ready to apply, create an ImmiAccount with the DHA.
6. Apply online for your Student Visa and pay the visa application charge
Student Visa applicants will need to complete a health assessment as part of the visa application process. Some applicants may be directed to undertake health examinations at an approved clinic, which can take several weeks to complete.
You may be eligible to complete the health assessment before lodging your visa application. To avoid delay, you can find out what your requirements are by visiting the DHA “My Health Declarations” page.
Student Visa Processing Time
The DHA website provides updated visa processing time estimates and you should take note of these when you apply. Visa processing time is calculated from the date you submit a completed visa application to the date of decision.
The amount of time to process your visa can be affected by peak periods as well as factors related to your own circumstances such as your country of citizenship, travel and migration history, character and health checks and other requirements. SAE recommend that you submit your visa application as soon as you receive your COE.
Your Student Visa will have conditions applied. These conditions are determined by the DHA and will be listed on your Visa Grant Notice. Some conditions are the same for each student (Mandatory Conditions), while others may be applied depending on your specific circumstances (Discretionary conditions). Breaching your visa conditions can result in cancellation of your Student Visa, so you should ensure you are familiar with and understand all conditions applied. A full list of conditions is available here: Student Visa Conditions.
