SAE Melbourne students, Siyao Song and Elsie Hoja created FOMO, an animated short that tackles the effects of social media on a person and the overwhelming effects it can have on our mental health. We particularly like this student work, as it’s not only creative but delivers a powerful message that many can relate with.
The team consisted of Siyao Song, studying the Bachelor of Animation with a specialisation in Visual Effects, and Elsie Hoja, studying the Bachelor of Animation with a specialisation in 3D Modelling. Audio student, Isabella Wihongi, Bachelor of Audio (Post Production) provided sound design edting and foley effects.
The animation teams wanted to base the story of FOMO on the concept of fear. They wanted to explore the fear of missing out and the anxiety that an exciting or interesting event may currently be happening elsewhere, often aroused by posts seen on social media.
