" SAE is a breeding place for creativity and it’s the people and connections I made whilst studying there that has lead me to where I am today "

Bio

SAE graduate Kieran Harris always had a passion for filmmaking and storytelling, so it was only natural that after finishing his film degree at SAE he would venture out to start production company ‘Outer Path Films’.

What inspired you to enter into the career you’re in?
Growing up I loved action sports and was inspired by documentaries that pushed the boundaries with visual storytelling, but also incorporated engaging stories about people and extreme locations. I choose film because I wanted to inspire people with my own visual stories and also because filmmaking is one of the few industries where you never stop learning.

What are your fondest memories of your time at SAE?
Definitely my final creative project, because it was one of the biggest projects I had ever undertaken and I got to do it with all of my good friends at SAE. I was also lucky enough to take part in a master-class with Australian director Stephen Lance.

Are you able to shed some light on how studying at SAE lead you to where you are now?
SAE is a breeding place for creativity and it’s the people and connections I made whilst studying there that has lead me to where I am today.

What are your career highlights?
Working on a surfing documentary, filming a television commercial in New Zealand and starting my own business.

What projects are you working on at the moment?
I recently started my new business Outer Path Films, which I believe thrives on adventure and immersive storytelling. We aim to offer the latest in digital cinema technology and hope to push the boundaries of filmmaking to inspire adventure seekers. Aside from this, I’m also working on a music video clip for a Sydney based electronic group, initial stages of a pilot for a comedic web series and filming for a current SAE audio student as part of his final creative project.

What advice would you give to students aspiring to become successful in their field?
Take the initiative to get experience in the field as soon as possible, it will not only give you some priceless connections but you will also learn tricks of the trade that will benefit your student productions immensely.
