ALEJANDRA LUCIANI

Venezuelan born, Alejandra Luciani studied a Bachelor of Audio at SAE’s Sydney and Byron Bay campuses. Since graduating she has worked with amazing engineers and artists on a number of different projects.

What inspired you to enter into the career you’re in?
I have always had a passion for music. I was in different instrument and singing lessons since I was young. I guess I developed a passion for music early on. Music has always been very inspiring to me, as I believe it is with everyone, it makes you feel identified to something that is bigger than you. I was in a band as well, but I wanted to get involved with it, be a part of the whole music making process rather than an outsider or a passive listener. Also I’m a very logical person, I’ve always had an interest for physics, so I wanted something in between, something highly creative but with a scientific foundation and audio is just that.

What are your fondest memories of your time at SAE?
My fondest memory of SAE is definitely the creative atmosphere. Being among other people that share your same passion in a very positive environment, great helpful staff and teachers, and of course being able to play around and get your head around things in great studios.

Are you able to shed some light on how studying at SAE lead you to where you are now?
SAE gives you a great foundation to start your career. It helps you step into the audio world by giving you the knowledge of how everything works and practical experience with studio equipment so you can have a smooth start in your future jobs and continue learning along the way.

What are your career highlights?
It’s been a year since I finished at SAE and I’ve had the chance of interning at Studios 301 Byron Bay with one of rock’s best engineer, Nick Didia (Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young). Being an assistant in the Byron Bay Blues Festival with headlining acts including Robert Plant, Santana and Paul Simon among many other great bands.

Working with Michael Stavrou (from Air Studios, London 1974-1980) in a 1940’s inspired recording of a band called “Heartworn Highway”. And most recently getting to work with great musicians here in Brazil, assisting David Corcos (The Cribs, Funeral Party, Marcelo D2) and Mauricio Cersosimo (Sepultura, Crash Test Dummies, Avril Lavigne).

What projects are you working on at the moment?
I recently moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil, and at the moment I’m working on a couple of albums with David Corcos. The third album of the trending Brazilian rock band called “Selvagens à Procura de Lei” which will hopefully be released around April and a Hip Hop record for an artist from Rio de Janeiro called Tony Mariano. I’ll also be assisting Mauricio Cersosimo on the recording of the renowned Brazilian rock band “Titãs” for a TV production.

What advice would you give to students aspiring to become successful in their field?
If you are really passionate about it, stick with it through thick and thin. Be strong and never give up. Opportunities don’t come knocking on your door, you have to make them happen.
