ABOUT WILLIAM

What do you most enjoy about student life at SAE?

The connections I'm allowed to build with so many talented individuals from both my own and other disciplines; also the chance to delve headfirst into professional work that is meaningful to me.

What are your plans for when you graduate?

I plan to start my career at a major triple AAA studio preferably Ubisoft or EA. After that, I will aim to create my own games studio!

Can you share an artist or professional in your discipline that inspires you?

Isaiah Cartwright, a very talented game designer for guild wars and role model.

Could you please tell us a little about your involvement with SAE campus life?

I’m currently a member of the student council and do everything I can to help out from there. I also advocate cross-disciplinary projects on campus and have a lot of fun projects on the way to increase student interaction.

Have you studied previously?

I completed high school right before I started SAE. There I studied game development for 3 years.

What do you enjoy most about your discipline?

The diversity of work. At points I can just dive into a game system and lose myself in it while at other points I can work as a group leader; helping out my colleagues and building a vision with them.

What is your favourite software you use?

Google spreadsheets - it is the program I spend most of my time and it is super practical! HackNplan is a close second.

What is your favourite hardware you use?

I want to say pen and paper but I’m not sure I can. Otherwise, it would be a PC!

What projects are you most proud of? What did you produce in this project?

My favourite project would have to be Pyro’s Tower! An isometric turn-based puzzle game based on a fire shooting wizard. I worked as Lead Game Designer and was in charge of defining and systemising the gameplay. For example what happens when a fireball hits object x.

What advice would you give to someone considering coming to SAE?

To do it! Other then that, To practice asking questions. It’s a skill that is applicable in so many cases in all creative disciplines and is a must!

What is Orientation and the first day of SAE like?

Scary but exciting. Being an international student, it really was a new experience. But I ended up just making a bunch of friends on that day!

Do you have any helpful tips to share with fellow students?

Take care of yourself and appreciate your work. In 99.99% of cases the work is awesome and you should feel awesome for doing it.

What is the best fun fact about yourself?

I’m a roman history nerd and I love doing the charleston

What have you accomplished that you are most proud of?

I taught a class of 20+ students about game design and development for 6 months.
