Record Numbers at Brisbane Campus Open Day

2 Sep 2014

Despite a rainy start to the day, last Saturday’s Open Day at Brisbane campus was the best ever, with a record 525 attendees visiting the campus.

There were plenty of things to see and do, including equipment and software demonstrations, student projects, information sessions and campus tours.

Audio lecturer Conor demonstrated a typical live sound set-up, while lecturer Peter took visitors through the process of electronic music production in Ableton.

Guests had fun acting on a film set in the film studio, and watched as Film lecturer Alex edited the footage in the Post Production suite.

The Games Seminars were so popular that the team decided to move to a larger space in the Auditorium and add two extra talks, while guests could also play student games and have fun in a virtual reality world with the Occulus Rift.

Students from the Animation department displayed their recent projects, and guests could try out the Wacom graphics tablet, while listening to the team in the information seminar.

Another popular attraction was student projects from the Graphic Design department, which were on display all day, and featured magazines, packaging design, stationary, and other creative concepts. Also on hand were final year Web students, who displayed their recent projects, including a drawing app for devices.

The canteen was full all day, with the hot food options proving very popular due to the cold weather outside.

Thanks goes to our 20-plus student volunteers for their contribution on the day, we couldn’t have done it without them.
