Music Production

Richard Pike, SAE Institute Audio lecturer & Jaded 90’s ex-raver burnout finds redemption in the world of academia.Presenter - Richard Pike

Richard Pike's relationship with electronic music began in the mid 90’s, firstly by burning up dance floors in Melbourne's burgeoning warehouse rave scene, then migrating to the DJ booth, and ultimately the studio.

He started lecturing electronic music production at SAE 10 years ago. During this time he completed his post-graduate studies in music technology and a masters degree (with distinction thank you very much) in creative industries where he wallowed in the realms of virtual reality investigating the creative implications of head-tracking spatialized audio in electronic music production. Over the last few years, he has delved into the heady world of DIY modular synthesis, building synthesisers to incorporate into his studio productions and live shows.

Richard eschews social networking so you won’t find him on “the Twitter” or “the Instagram” but he does have a company-mandated email address, so he may be contacted at r.pike@sae.edu

Music Production Masterclass

EDM Production Techniques

When Richard was 12, he begged his parents to get him a synthesiser for his birthday. Convinced it was “just a phase he was going through”, no synths were unwrapped on his special day. Cut to several decades later, Richard will illustrate his creative and technical electronic music production process, incorporating instruments and effects both in hardware and software form, covering synthesis and sampling techniques, drum programming, effects routing, and workflow enhancements that you can use to help create your own music.
