Good vibes at Byron Bay’s newest music festival

16 Oct 2018

The second annual Byron Bay Guitar Festival  took place over the 6th - 7th October and six student interns studying Audio and Design at SAE Byron Bay joined in the fun and lent a hand.

Running over two days, the Guitar Festival held at the Byron Bay Brewery, showcases rock, blues and roots, world music, indie and music with influences from the 20s, 30s and 40s. The event had something for everyone and the crowds responded in turn, with double the ticket sales from the inaugural festival, all ages were in attendance and were a great mix of locals and out of towners.

In charge of  the audio at Main Stage was SAE alumni Kevin Garcia Fernandez. Since graduating Kevin has been working as tour manager and front of house engineer with acts such as Wolfmother, Xavier Rudd, Harts and Ash Grunwald. At the Byron Bay Guitar Festival Kevin guided two of SAE’s audio interns and was impressed with the professionalism they displayed while on the job.

“It was really nice to have the the interns working with me, they know the material and interning gives them a chance to apply what they have learnt in real life practice. They stepped up, they earned my trust and I was confident in their abilities to do their jobs properly,” Kevin said.

“The festival itself is good for the industry in Byron Bay, it's so much more than then a guitar fest, it's a festival for music lovers. Even while working I had a such great time,” Kevin said of his first time at the event.

Another audio student also assisted on the Garden Stage and three Graphic Design students worked hard to keep all those who couldn't make it in the loop by documenting the event live on social media.

On site was student ambassador Louis, answering any questions to do with all things SAE. SAE also sponsored the popular Masterclass series, a free initiative for ticket holders, the classes were presented by crowd favourites such as Jeff Martin and Lloyd Spiegel.

We look forward to enjoying the Guitar Festival as an annual mainstay on the Byron scene.
