What do you most enjoy about student life at SAE?

I’m loving every minute of being in such a creative environment. This course is by far one of the best things I’ve ever done. It has felt like the missing piece to my puzzle. Unlocking  a whole new world of creative ability for me and it’s blowing my mind.

What are your plans for when you graduate?

I am an independent singer/songwriter originally from S.A. and have been living between Adelaide and Los Angeles building my music career. I go by the stage name ‘Zjál’ which is an Arabic word which describes the ancient Lebanese art of poetry slam. So after I graduate, I plan to head back over to USA and put this new earned knowledge and skills into action. I feel like I’ve hit a pivotal new beginning in my craft so I’ll be infusing everything I have learned into future projects. I’m super excited. I have new singles I’ll be releasing and promoting in 2020 so you’ll have to keep an eye out for me.

Can you share an artist or professional in your discipline that inspires you?

This is actually one of the hardest questions to answer, because, there are so many artists I love and respect. Anyone who has a deeper lyrical content, anyone who is truly authentic in who they are and in their creativity. For me, music is about connection, not attention. So I resonate most with those who use their art to speak their truth. Who are truly unique in their craft. That is a level I always try to aspire to.

Could you please tell us a little about your involvement with SAE campus life?

I feel at home at our campus. It’s such a chill vibe which makes it a really comfortable place to learn. Being at SAE has been hugely inspiring for me on many levels. The tools I’m learning gives me the ability to remain an independent artist by maintaining my creative freedom and expression. As my skills grow, I reconnect to the core of who I am as an artist. Literally shedding the old and rebuilding myself continually by learning the tools that compliment my vision as a singer/songwriter and soon to be music producer!

What projects have you worked on?

I’m super proud of my current project, my latest single “Home” available on all streaming outlets. Spotify, YouTube, iTunes  etc. I co-wrote this track with an amazing team of writers and producers in Los Angeles. Along with 4 other songs to be released soon. You can check out what I’ve been up to on my website and follow the links to my social media pages.

What advice would you give to someone considering coming to SAE?

Definitely do it! Make it your first priority.

Do you have any helpful tips to share with fellow students?

Overall, I think it’s important to remember, we are investing in ourselves when we study, and just like everything else in life, you get out of it what you put in. Always ask for help if you need it. Keep your mind focused on your end goal.

What have you accomplished that you are most proud of?

I’d have to say: Being brave enough to take this leap of faith and risk life’s usual milestones to continue to pursue my dream. I had to build my friendships, connections and foundations from the ground up internationally as a self-funded independent artist. Building my music career overseas is something I will always be proud of and something I am grateful to have the ability to do.
