Brisbane Graduation Ceremony 2015

27 Mar 2015

The SAE Brisbane Graduation Ceremony was held on Wednesday, March 25 at the Old Museum Building in Fortitude Valley.

Graduates from the Animation, Audio, Design, Film, Games and Web programs were presented with their testamurs in a formal ceremony, in front of supportive family and friends.

The ceremony was presided over by Chair of the Academic Board Dr Helen Lancaster, and special guests included Academic Board member Mark McDuff, and Guest Speaker for the evening Emeritus Professor Zbys Klich.

Zbys has recently retired as Global Director of Academic Affairs at SAE Institute, having spent many years with SAE, including as CEO in the UK, and Australia, Dubai and New Zealand. Zbys gave an inspiring speech about the importance of independence and perseverance, especially in the ever-changing creative industries.

This year the Valedictorian was jointly awarded, with two outstanding Animation students receiving the honour. Maree Railton and David McLaughlin (pictured) received a commemorative Valedictorian medal for achieving the highest grade point average (GPA) in Brisbane. Maree and David also received the Academic Achievement awards, for earning the Highest GPA in Animation nationally.

The Valedictorians both gave a short address, referring to their experience during their studies, and offering their advice to their fellow graduates upon entering the creative industries.

Graphic Design graduate Kara Thattanakham was awarded the Academic Achievement award for Design, having achieved the highest GPA nationally in her discipline.

Students and their families enjoyed light refreshments after the ceremony concluded, and mingled with the academic staff.

All of the 2014 graduates will now join the SAE Alumni program, which offers networking opportunities, as well as a job board, newsletters and invitations to alumni events.

Congratulations to all of the present and absent 2014 Graduates! We wish you well on your journey into the creative media industry!
