Accolades for animation lecturer in lead up to Brisbane exhibition

An upcoming exhibition at Brisbane’s Edwina Corlette Gallery by SAE Sydney Animation Lecturer Amber Boardman features in this month’s national Art Collector magazine.

The article recognises Boardman’s recent Permission display at Sydney’s Chalk Horse, explores her art style and showcases four works from the new Expansion series.

“Expansion takes the smaller intimate paintings from Permission and develops them in terms of context and size,” Boardman said. “The new exhibition gives the freeform characters homes and environments in which to live. “It also provides the foundation for a future exhibition titled Integration which sees the transformation of characters and their environments into animations within a dark, humorous and sitcom-like world.”

Boardman, who has been lecturing at SAE for more than two years, is an accomplished artist recognised by the City of Sydney and the Dame Joan Sutherland Fund for creative contributions in 2014.

She has also animated for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and Google in the US. Expansion joins a long string of her Australian and UK exhibitions. See Expansion at the Edwina Corlette Gallery in New Farm from 25 August until 18 September.
