Diploma of Audio Production
Get on track to make serious noise in audio production.
In a matter of months, you’ll learn the key fundamentals in studio production, live sound production and electronic music production.
Our diploma has been built in a way that gives you plenty of face-to-face time with expert lecturers and many hours on the latest tools and software.
You will engage in collaborative studio-based learning and apply the skills learned throughout the course to a real life scenario. Demonstrating your recording and mixing techniques you will deliver a practical recording from a specified brief, under the support and guidance of our expert lecturers.
To complement your technical skills, you will graduate with employability skills, introductory project management skills and scholarly techniques for higher education.
Upon completion you will be eligible for up to 80 credit points towards either the Bachelor of Audio.

Diploma of Audio Production
The Diploma of Audio Production has a strong practical focus, underpinned by key theoretical components. The course content is informed by our strong links to industry and our 40-year history in designing and teaching creative media courses.

You will learn
Throughout your hands-on course you will gain an introduction to:
- Foundation music theory including an understanding of musical form and structure, the way the human auditory system functions and how sound behaves in enclosed spaces and free-fields.
- Operation of Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and basic sound console.
- Sound recording, mixing and application of signal processors such as EQ, Dynamics and time-based effects.
- Technical principles and practical applications of microphones in both studio and live contexts.
- Digital technology in audio production including an analogue audio equipment connectivity, conversion methods, data storage and compression and transmission.
- Assembly of a small scale digital recording system.

Entry requirements
Applicants for Diploma courses must satisfy one of the following minimum entry criteria:
- Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (SSCE) or equivalent, OR
- Completion of a certificate IV level qualification issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), OR

Under section 6.8 of the Student Progression, Exclusion and Graduation Policy, SAE reserves the right to apply conditional enrollments to students who apply to SAE via alternative entry. The Academic Coordinator will determine an appropriate set of support mechanisms for each student, based on individual experience and merit.
